WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO AVOID PROBLEMS WITH ALLERGY TO POLLENS?
Avoid High Pollen Situations
Do not go out at peak times, as above. Avoid mowing lawns or cutting grass in the pollen season. Do not hang laundry to dry out of doors on high pollen days, or get someone else to shake and fold it outside the home before bringing it in. Do not go for a walk across fields at peak grass pollen times. Stay away from woods or clumps of trees at tree pollen seasons. Stay away from oilseed rape fields and do not drive through them if this makes you react. Do not bring cut flowers or keep flowering plants in the house if you react, unusually, to these. Organise your garden to remove trees or plants which upset you, especially those close to windows and doors.
For long journeys at high pollen seasons, Inter City trains and aeroplanes are air-conditioned and are often a better way to travel than by car or bus.
Check the pollen count before you go out or plan your day. The Pollen Research Unit provides a telephone service to give information on pollen counts region by region.
